FAQs
The Ruskin Mill Centre for Practice library service is currently being established. While this work is ongoing, here are some answers to common questions from staff:
What is the library catalogue for?
Ruskin Mill Trust holds thousands of books and other materials across its sites. The catalogue will make them discoverable for students on our MA courses, and also other Trust staff. We are currently collating records of exactly what is held, and where, and adding them to the catalogue. The main collection will be housed in the George Adams Research Centre at the Sunfield site in Clent. The catalogue is built using the Koha library management software, which is used by thousands of libraries worldwide.
Where can I find these books?
Once you've searched for a book, it will display a location telling you where in the Trust it is located. We will also be assigning class numbers to each title for faster retrieval, and barcodes so they can be checked out, although this process will take a while to complete. There are many books to look through!
Will I be able to borrow books?
We are gradually adding users to the system. Books will typically be issued for 3 weeks, but will auto-renew up to 3 times, unless another user has placed a hold on them. If you are an MA student, books will be issued from one taught block until the next so that you don't need to keep renewing them.
Do you charge fines?
No we don't charge fines, but you will receive a succession of reminder emails to return your item.
I've found an item which says 'Click here to access online'
We have added some handpicked Open Access EBooks to the catalogue, where they are relevant to Ruskin Mill courses. Open Access books are freely available and can be read by anyone. Research articles from the Trust's 'Field Centre Journal' can also be read in full in this way.
Why don't all the books display a book jacket?
The book jacket is determined by the ISBN in a catalogue record. Older titles which don't have an ISBN won't display a jacket, most modern titles should display one, although there will be some exceptions.
My question isn't here...
Please email the Trust Librarian who will assist with your enquiry. We will also continue to update this page as the library service develops.
